Weekly Wrap – Term 1, Week 1

Welcome to Week 1 2024

For most students this was a very short week, with our Year 8 to 11 students commencing on Thursday.

We staggered our start, enabling our Year 7 and 12 students to start on Wednesday.

There was a nervous excitement in the air as our new Year 7 students made their way to Assembly on their first day.

They had a good day, settling in to the routines of FHC, getting on our network and learning about our expectations for their success.

Year 12 students participated in “Aspire Day”, where they set goals, made study plans and had an English Masterclass.

We welcome all students back, especially new ones.

New Staff

Welcome to our new teaching staff:

Matthew Fry, Thomas Kennedy, Lena Pham, Mitch Guy, Lara Hayes,  Abbey Wilson, Olga Kasack and Belinda Clements.

We also welcome new Educational Support staff.

We are excited to have them all join our great team.

Pursuing Excellence

In 2024 our messaging is quite simple.

We are pursuing excellence in everything we do.

This pursuit begins with a focus on curriculum and our staff have been working hard, as always on the curriculum they deliver.

They are dedicated to high quality teaching and learning.

Our passion is the provision of teaching excellence, and we are enthusiastically working on this every day.

To support our staff and students we have, over the break been ensuring our facilities are in excellent order.

We have been painting classrooms, setting up the furniture, gardening and making sure the first impression every day is of a great school.

We have been successful in securing funding to improve accessibility access and works on further ramp upgrades to entrances and exits has commenced.

We have continued working with our architects across the break and will be working with our community to commence the actual designing phase of the 10.9 million dollar upgrade to our science, art and technology classrooms this term.

College Expectations

To our students and our parents, we have an expectation that every one attends the school every lesson, every day unless ill.

This is not always easy for some, but we have a very sharp focus on lifting attendance this year.

As simple as it sounds, it is harder to produce academic excellence if you are not in school.

We expect all students to attend in full College uniform, with all their equipment and ready to learn.

The College is a calm and orderly place with a focus on attaining academic excellence.

Most of our students wear their uniform with pride and participate in classrooms drawing on excellent learning behaviours.

Students who attempt to disrupt the smooth operations of the College will not be tolerated.

We expect full support from our parents in pursuing this standard.

We are looking forward to an awesome 2024, where every student achieves great outcomes.

We are here to challenge everyone in our community to bring their best version of themselves, every day.

We have excellent support mechanisms in place to ensure access to our curriculum and the pursuit of excellence is something everyone is able to strive for, regardless of their background or learning needs.

We will make reasonable adjustments for those who need it.

What we will not do is lower our expectations of effort.

We look forward to you coming on this ride with us as we look towards a fabulous year
