Weekly Wrap – Term 1, Week 2

Last week we had an assembly on Wednesday to mark the start of the 2024 calendar year at the College.

Firstly, we were privileged to have Uncle Colin Junior perform a smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country to start our College year.

He explained the purpose of a smoking ceremony to the students and welcomed them.

I reminded the students that this year everything we do is in the pursuit of excellence.

We expect them to be on time, be in uniform to school, at school and on the way home from school.

We want them to be proud of themselves and of our uniform.

We expect our students are ready to learn, with a charged device, all of their books, their pens and equipment at school, in working order.

We expect that they work hard, are polite and courteous and have respect for the learning environment and that they “sweep the sheds.”

By this we mean that they leave a space clean and tidy after they have used it.

I am excited about the year ahead.

We have a building program to develop new Science, Foods and Art spaces beginning this year.

Later this term the opportunity to work with our architects to contribute to the design phase will be made available to interested students.

In 2024 I will be working part time.

I have made the decision to support my daughter to complete her studies and I will be baby sitting my 19 month old grandson.

She is married to an athlete who spends a lot of time away from home, so she needs some help minding her toddler to enable her to pursue her career.

Ms Buckingham will be sharing the Principal role with me this year.

She will be Principal on Thursdays and Fridays.

School Library News

It has been wonderful to see the school library so busy with both our new Year 7 students and all our returning students.

We truly believe that the school library is the hub of the school and we pride ourselves on being a safe space for everyone.

Our goal is to encourage all students, staff, and the whole school community to read…

To make this possible we do not put any limits on the number of books each student can borrow at one time.

There are NO overdue fines and NO fines for lost or damaged books.

All we ask is that students let us know if they have lost or damaged a book so we can update our records and replace as required.

We have many plans for activities in the school library this year…. keep an eye on Compass and the Weekly Wrap for more information as the year goes on.

Due to popular, and consistent, demand, Book Club in the Library will be returning this week on Tuesday – February 13th –  at lunch time.

Any student or staff member is welcome to bring their lunch and spend lunch time chatting books with other enthusiastic readers, or just anyone interested in books, reading and chatting.

Book Club is held every second week.

Keep up to date with all the school library activities and reading suggestions on our active Instagram account – @fhclibrary
