Presentation Night Tuesday 6th December

Year 7, 2023 Orientation Day Tuesday 13th December

Dear all,

Welcome to week 9.

Our second week of Leap Up has been focused mainly on getting stuck into class work, in an attempt to complete one assessment task in every subject across the College this year. On Thursday this week our superstar Robotics Team boarded a train bound for the National Robotics Championships in Sydney. The team had been working very hard every day for many weeks refining “Dankus” and getting they/ them prepared for a tilt at the title. The robot (Dankus) has been as well prepared as we could hope. The students have laid out an exact replica of the course in our Makers Space, allowing them to be extremely well prepared. No matter where they finish, we are so proud of their innovation and their work ethic.  We would like to extend a special thank you also to to Bradley Sainsbury (Jackson’s Dad) for making the sturdy transportation case for our special cargo.

On Tuesday next week we have Presentation Night. Across this last week much preparation has gone into the evening, to make sure it is a fitting tribute to the students within our College who have elevated themselves to a very high standard through their passion and their work ethic. Our vision statement, to inspire passionate, positive and curious learners is something we take very seriously. Presentation Night is all about celebrating the excellence achieved through those who have embodied that vision. We look forward to seeing many families in attendance.

Finally, the College is undertaking significant works to enhance the experience for our students. This work will be finished across the next month. We hope to have the footpath open before the end of next week. The improvements to the Year 8 and 9 locker bays will be finished by the end of December. The roof works are now complete and we should gain better access throughout the College in the coming days. The toilets between the Year 8 and 9 locker bays are being renovated, and work on the commences next week. They will be open for the return of students in January. Underpinning works around the Theatre and Gym are in progress and should be only days away from completion. Some works to the Makers Space commence next week. We are doing some further painting and carpeting of the makers space areas, as well as some works to the International Students foyer and classroom.

I would like to thank the work Neil Angus has done in supporting our school community for the previous 12 years, as member for the Forest Hill District. Neil has been a wonderful advocate for the College, and was instrumental in securing funding for works we had done in 2014, 2015 and 2016. This advocacy enabled us to develop the William Barak Centre, Strength and Conditioning space and toilets in the Gym, our Administration Centre, Staff Room and Wellbeing Centre, STEAM classrooms and Aspire centre for the Later Years, as well as the Central and Southern Courtyard refurbishments.

I would like to congratulate John Mulahy on his election to the District of Glen Waverly. John has advocated and secured 10.9 million dollars to fund the creation of cutting-edge Science and Information Technology classrooms, and what we hope will be a new Food Technology area. The work of both local Members of State Parliament has meant the entire College has been able to be renovated to meet the needs of 21st century learners. We are grateful to both John and Neil.
