Week 1 – Term 3

Welcome to week one of Term 3.

Having spent the second term on Long Service Leave, much of the first week has been about catching up on the events of Term 2.

I want to take this opportunity to thank Nicky Buckingham, who led our school very well while I was on leave. I would also like to thank Russell Lee, who stepped into the role of Assistant Principal and Ash Gell who took on his Leading Teacher role. They all did a wonderful job. I am immensely proud of the team that runs our school.

Throughout my leave, I was fortunate enough to travel overseas to Singapore, Italy and New York, as well as spend a week on the South Coast of NSW surfing. This time spent relaxing has meant I return to work refreshed and excited to keep leading the College. This week I signed a new five year contract and am grateful to the school community for offering me the opportunity to continue leading our fantastic College. Serving the FHC community is a job I consider to be a privilege.

I would like to congratulate our team of students and staff who worked for many months to put together a brilliant version of the musical production, “Rock of Ages”. The performance reflected a team that had rehearsed and practised with great dedication. The show was slick and of a very high quality. It allowed many students to shine, and showcase their talents and passions.

Kate Wilkinson and her team of staff have ensured this was a musical we could all be very proud of. On behalf of the FHC community, I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for the countless hours they have put into ensuring our students are enabled to participate in such a brilliant performance. Students attend school to learn and grow in a formal academic sense. They also grow in self-confidence and learn a vast amount of important life skills by taking on roles in school musicals. Extra-curricular opportunities regularly form the basis of the best memories we all have of our schooling. Once again, thanks and congratulations.

Next week the College Course Selection Expo is on Wednesday evening. We invite all parents of students in Years 8-10 to attend. This information evening is very important for families as it helps explain the pathways available to young people now. Some exciting new pathway opportunities from within the College are being introduced in 2020.

We have researched far and wide for the last two years to explore the best pathways that ensure students can complete their secondary schooling at FHC with options, which provide pathways beyond the College. With our new Strategic Plan now complete, we will be announcing a new STEP pathway into Swinburne University, which can be accessed by both scored and unscored VCE completion and VCAL. It is indeed an exciting time to be part of our College, and I look forward to watching students now select the pathway that best works for them in the coming weeks.
