Academic Testing

Across the initial three weeks of the academic year, student in Years 7 to 10 have undertaken PAT-R and PAT-M testing to ascertain their Literacy and Numeracy skills.

Our enrichment and catch up team have now identified skill strengths and challenges amongst our students.

Our teaching staff have all been given 30 minutes per week to ensure all students are being extended in their learning or can demonstrate mastery of the required skill.

We are working hard with our students to best prepare them for their upcoming NAPLAN testing in March.

These tests allow us to compare our students’ levels and skills nationally and they enable predictive insight into potential VCE performance.

VCE Performance Update

All VCE staff have been analyzing the performance of the 2023 Year 12 cohort in the end of year exams.

Teachers have been analyzing performance, across every question of every exam.

They are looking for areas of the exams that our students have performed well in and areas where our students did not perform as well.

This then determines where we may need to make adjustments to our curriculum to enable even higher VCE performance.

The Resilience Project- Year 11 2024

Forest Hill College is proud to be a Resilience Project partner school.

Through presentations, student curriculum, teacher resources and digital content, The Resilience Project’s Education Programs support mental health in the classroom, staffroom and family home.

The research is clear; the more positive emotion you experience, the more resilient you will be.

For that reason the program focus on three key pillars that have been proven to cultivate positive emotion; GratitudeEmpathy and Mindfulness (GEM), with Emotional Literacy being a foundational skill to practise these strategies.

Expect your Year 11 child to begin this project in the coming Connect sessions.

College Swimming Carnival

On Tuesday this week our annual swimming carnival was held.

This was the first event that was held using our new College Tribe names, the Kookaburras, Wallabies, Crocodiles & Dingoes,

The event was held at the Monash Aquatic Centre and the weather was perfect.

Students and staff dressed up in Tribe colors and enjoyed a day of swimming, participating in novelty events and connecting with one another.

Notice of College Council Elections Timeline

We would like to inform our community that three vacancies exist on the 2024 College Council.

Nomination forms can be found on Compass and are due Friday 1 March 2024 4.00pm.

In the event that we have more nominations than vacancies, an election will be called.

Nominees will be posted on Friday 1 March,.

A ballot will be opened on Friday 8 March, closing on Friday 15 March.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

College Building Projects

Law Architects continued their work in designing our new Science, Art and Technology spaces with teachers have the opportunity to create their ‘wish list’.

Services consultants were also onsite across several days.

We are excited to see some schematic designs in the next few months and will share these as soon as we are able.

You may notice that temporary fencing has been installed across the College this week.

Works on the accessible ramp upgrade have commenced.

Emergency exits at the rear of the Gym, a ramp from the car park leading to the Theatre and works across the internal wall of the staff room will be done first.
