Welcome to edition 3 of Term 2

The weeks pass so quickly, it’s Week 6 already!

Since I last wrote, we have been compiling SAC data and getting ready to hold our follow up data conversations with our Year 12 students.

Please let the sub-school know if you would like to join your young adult for that conversation.

Using a formula created by our talented Acting LT for Curriculum – Allison Savige- we are now able to predict with a greater level of accuracy a student’s study score in a particular subject.

This will be very useful for our students to understand where to squeeze a few extra points for their final ATAR.

A reminder that Semester 2 commences in Week 11 so we are preparing for a change in electives for years 9 & 10 and for our VCE students to complete UnIts 1 & 3.

We also have a student free day on June 7th as we prepare for the Exams.

Upcoming Assessments

Whole school exam period.

During Week 9 and 10 we will be conducting whole school exams.

Please look out for timetabling details from the sub school teams.

The expectation is that all students participate in mid-year exams with the exception of Year 7.

We feel our Pat M & R testing plus the Naplan testing is enough for this young cohort at this time of the year.

They will though, be completing exams during the end of year exam period.

A reminder that the GAT also takes place during this period.

It is vitally important that every student does their best in the GAT as it is used as a predictor for their final ATAR and is used by VCAA in the case of an emergency.

Staffing News

I’d like to welcome new staff to the College.

A big welcome to Jesse Sack (Maths/Steam) who joins us from the NT and Amanda Ling (HPE/Foods) who joins us as a teacher after coaching in our AFL Program.

Our teaching staff cohort is now full however, we do have a number of Education Support positions available including as Sub School Assistant, Office staff and aides.

Library News – Festival of Stories

Our Festival of Stories finished off with an author visit from award-winning Young Adult author Will Kostakis on Monday May 13th.

Will spoke to our Year 8 students about his writing journey and had them totally engaged – finishing off with a book giveaway for 2 of our lucky students.

Then Will held an informal lunch time chat which was open to all students and staff, which was incredibly well attended.

Congratulations to our Student Parliament Writing Competition winners:

Middle years: Juliet M, Y9

Later Years: Kirk H Y12

Staff: Samantha Guest

Thank you to everyone who voted for their favourite stories in each category.

A final thanks to everyone for their support of our very first Festival of Stories, and we look forward to making this an annual event.

Congratulations to Harvey B, in Year 8, who is now the World BMX Champion for 14 boys!

In addition to this incredible achievement, Harvey also ranked 4th in the world for boys 13-14 Cruiser Class (24”)

Harvey was selected to represent Australia in the world bmx racing championships in Rock Hill, South Carolina USA in his age group, 14 boys on the 20” bmx and the 13-14 boys cruiser class (24” bmx).

On the first day of racing, the Cruiser Class, Harvey won all his Qualifying races, and placed 4th in the Final.

In the main race, the 20” BMX, Harvey again won every qualifying final to make it to the main event.
