Welcome to edition 1 of Term 2

We hope everyone has had a great break and are refreshed for a fantastic term.

In speaking with our Year 12 students, we have seen many of them working very hard across the break to continue aspiring towards high quality ATAR scores.

Many commented they had also been able to rest and set themselves up for a successful lead in to the mid year exams for Year 12 VCE studies.

Throughout July of this year, the College will be seeking input on future uniform directions.

Parents are encouraged to have their say on any alterations they would like to see the College make as we commence negotiations for our Uniform contract in 2025.

We will be holding some forums and providing an online platform to make suggestions.

On Wednesday this week the College marked ANZAC Day with a somber assembly.

Lieutenant Buckingham of the Australian Royal Navy was our special guest speaker.

Students read poems and rosemary was made available to all.

The Catafalque Party raised the flag at the completion of a wonderful rendition of the Last Post by Chris Revell.

Forest Hill College remembers and honours the sacrifices the Australian service men and women have and continue to make for our country.

Anzac Day Assembly

Forest Hill College held a solemn and respectful ANZAC Assembly on Wednesday, 24th April, at 1:15pm in the college gymnasium.

The assembly served as a commemoration of ANZAC Day, honouring the sacrifices made by Australian and New Zealand soldiers.

Led by students and staff, the assembly included various segments paying tribute to the courage and resilience of the ANZACs.

Key Events and Speakers:

Pre-Assembly Preparations: Flags were lowered to half-mast, and a Catafalque party comprising four Tribe leaders (Xavier, Brian, Ethan and Neil), stood guard at the flag post. Students received sprigs of rosemary, a poignant symbol of fidelity and remembrance.

Koori Welcome: Jennifer commenced the assembly with a heartfelt acknowledgment of the Traditional Owners of the land and a warm welcome to all attendees, including staff, students, parents, and guardians.

ANZAC Service: Stolas presented excerpts from the diary of a soldier named Frank, offering a vivid portrayal of the harrowing experiences endured by ANZAC soldiers during the Gallipoli campaign. Anish then recited the Ode, followed by a poignant moment of silence and the playing of the Last Post and Reveille performed by Mr. Revell while Faith raised the Australian flag.

War Poems: Isabelle read “A Tribute to ANZAC Day,” a stirring poem by Ken Bunker, honouring the valor and sacrifices of the ANZACs across various battlefields throughout history.

Speeches: Lieutenant Buckingham delivered a speech reflecting on the significance of ANZAC Day, followed by Mr. Rogers and Mrs. Buckingham, the college principals, who addressed the audience, emphasizing the importance of remembrance and honouring the ANZAC legacy.

Tribe Inclusivity and Events: Representatives from the college’s tribes discussed efforts to enhance tribe inclusivity and upcoming events, including competitions and activities aimed at fostering a sense of belonging and community engagement.

Festival of Stories: Emily announced the upcoming Festival of Stories, a celebration of literature and creativity featuring author visits, musical performances, and a creative writing competition. Details of the competition, including submission guidelines and deadlines, were outlined.

Closing Remarks: Mrs. Baucke concluded the assembly, encouraging active participation in college activities and expressing anticipation for the busy term ahead.

Conclusion:

The ANZAC Assembly at Forest Hill College served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by servicemen and women throughout history.
