Week 7 – Term 3

Welcome to week 7.

We started the week with a visit from the Federal Member of Parliament for Chisholm, Gladys Liu. In her inaugural speech to Parliament she referred to the fact that she was hearing impaired and had suffered at school terribly as a result. The College reached out to Gladys and offered her a tour of the school. Gladys was very complimentary of the College. We asked her for her support into the future and discussed some areas we felt she may be able to assist when it came to future funding for projects. We look forward to a strong partnership with Gladys, and we assured her she would receive invitations to key College events in future.

This week in staff professional learning on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, our attention was directed to maintaining a high quality learning culture in the classroom and the documentation of their curriculum. Both of these areas are the focus of Key Improvement Strategies in our new Strategic Plan.

This Friday was “wear it purple day” and I was proud to support Assistant Principal Chris Grant as he spoke at the DET’s Wear It Purple event at Treasury Place, addressing staff about inclusive practices in schools. Our College has been recognised as a leader in this space and Chris was asked to talk at the event about key actions he has led over the years to ensure the College is a safe and inclusive environment.

To continue this focus on the maintenance of a safe and secure environment, we have engaged the Pat Cronin Foundation to address our students later this year. These presentations are designed to help students better understand the impact of their actions. We understand the role schools play in the community to shape values and beliefs. Our College won’t shirk our responsibility to educate and empower all.

Commiserations and congratulations to Jarod Stafford. Jarod is coach of our AFL boys academy, and he also coaches the Under 17 East Burwood Rams. On Sunday the boys lost their grand final. On Saturday Jarod, who is also a key member of the East Burwood Rams Mens senior team, played a key role in securing a grand final birth for the Men’s side in 2 weeks time.

Have a great weekend.
