Dear all,

Welcome to week 5.

Monday saw our Year 12 students participate in a wellbeing day. The students had workshops on sexual health, consent and financial literacy. Speaking with our Year 12 students they all seemed to learn a lot across the day.

Monday was also IDAHOBIT Day. 31 years ago – on May 17, 1990 – the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from the Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems.
International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia & Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) celebrates LGBTQIA+ people globally, and raises awareness for the work still needed to combat discrimination. From a statistical point of view, 75% of LGBTQIA+ youth experience some form of discrimination. 35% of LGBTQIA+ Australians have experienced verbal abuse in the past 12 months, 39% of LGBTQIA+ people have experienced depression in the past 12 months. This is compared to 6% of the general population having experienced depression in the past 12 months.

You may have seen us raise the rainbow flag on Monday to mark the fact that at FHC we value our diversity and celebrate everyone. I would like to thank our wonderful Parents Association for volunteering their time to run a fundraising BBQ at lunchtime on the day. They raised around $700, which we will be using to develop facilities for students to use during lunch and recess.

Our Senior Boys Tennis team competed in the State Finals this week. The students made it all of the way through the State Finals to the actual Grand Final, going down narrowly to Maribyrnong. Congratulations on a great effort. The quality of tennis our boys displayed was very high.

Our Intermediate Footy and Netball Teams competed through the week and acquitted themselves extremely well. Whilst neither team made it beyond the Division rounds, they played well, participated with good sportsmanship and had a lot of fun.

Morrisby Testing 24 May

College Council 26 May
