Welcome to Week 4 of Term 2.
You may have noticed that we have a series of “Connection Days” scheduled for students across the coming weeks. The purpose behind these events is to allow opportunities to foster happy, active and healthy kids, as well as to address the key needs of respective year levels.
“Happy, active and healthy kids” is one of our 3 strategic goals for the year. You would also be aware that we have a goal, “Learning catch up and extension.” Up until this point of the year our focus has been on establishing small group tutoring for students who might have fallen behind last year. The tutor support is now well established and going extremely well. Students are reporting to us that their confidence is re-emerging as their skills improve. Our attention is now moving toward extension activities for students who are thriving. Information about opportunities for extension will be released soon.
Parents Association met on Tuesday evening this week. They focused much of their attention on a fundraising BBQ they will be holding during IDAHOBIT Day on Monday 17 May. We encourage all students to come in free dress with a rainbow theme. Funds raised at the BBQ are being donated to charity, so let us rally and support both the day and the BBQ. Forest Hill College is proud to be a “Safe School” and a place of inclusion.
The Canteen is now operational again, onsite, for cash only transactions. The more students support this, the faster the onsite presence will diversify and expend. I encourage all students to try to make some purchases at the Canteen at lunchtime, to let Café Oggi know the business is worth expanding. Lunch orders are still available online.
Congratulations to Charlotte Edwards on her selection into the U15 SSA Girls Victorian Football Team. Charlotte is a member of our AFLW Academy, and has benefitted greatly from being coached by Andy Collins, ex Hawthorn Champion and Premiership player, and Ryan Fergusson, current Richmond AFLW Head Coach. Charlotte trains hard and thoroughly deserves this opportunity. The carnival will be held late this year in the NT.
Congratulations to our Girls AFLW Team, coached by Andy Collins, for winning the Mullum Division Grand Final this week. For the first time our girls prevailed as champions, defeating Templestowe College. Stay tuned as the team participates in the Eastern Metro Regionals scheduled for Term 3.
