Welcome BBQ4

Week 3, Term 1

Welcome to Week Three. As usual it was a great week, with plenty happening.

Year 7 Welcome BBQ

Our annual Year 7 Welcome BBQ was a great success this week, with a large attendance of family and friends.  It was a perfect evening to gather together out in the FHC Courtyard, chat and make new acquaintances.  We look forward to a great year ahead for our Year 7 cohort.

Learning Walks.

Learning Walks are designed to provide information on what is happening in classrooms. It was wonderful to be joined by DET staff as well on this walk, and the feedback we got from DET was extremely positive. We were focussed on collecting data about how staff create and use routines to establish a positive climate for learning. This is a vital element of ensuring the classroom is orderly and allows all students to focus and concentrate on their work. We were delighted with what we saw across the College. Every classroom was quiet and productive. Students were very aware of what tasks they should be doing and were busily going about their work. When we asked students about the routines their teachers were using the majority could articulate clearly what their teachers did to create a productive classroom and how their teachers got to know them and build positive relationships with them.

Year 11 Excursion to La Trobe University.

This week our Year 11 students visited La Trobe University and participated in study skills workshops and did a tour of the University. By all accounts the day was very productive. Students are able to use this learning to refine some study habits as they embark on their VCE journey. The University tour was eye opening for many, and the opportunities La Trobe provides students was something many of our students now have greater awareness of.

Update on Leonardo Centre Renovations.

We appreciate the on-going patience of our staff and students while we scope and cost the rectification works relating to the Year 7 Leonardo Centre. The work involved is complex and we are aiming to cause minimal disruption to learning through a staged approach to the works.

We have spoken with the contractors this morning and they’ve advised the quote will be submitted to us for review mid-next week. Once we have received the quote, we will let our community know and provide advice around the timing of the works.

Traffic Management/ Student Safety and drop off/ pick up

Can I remind parents that we have a student drop off zone accessible through Gate 2, off Hawthorn Road. Traffic flow at the front of the College on the driveway off Mahoneys Road is quite challenging. To ensure we provide a safe space for students to walk into and out of the College I request parents to drop off and pick up students either outside of the College boundaries or by using the drop off/ pick up zone we have provided off Hawthorn Road.

College Council Nominations

Parents who would like to nominate for College Council can access a nomination form from Compass or the General Office. Nominations are due to the general Office by Monday 17 Feb 2020 4.00pm

Have a great weekend.
