Intensive English Language Program

“Forest Hill College gives me the opportunity to explore strengths that I never knew I had before.” – Chi Kiet

Forest Hill College provides an on-site Intensive English Language program for 20 weeks when students first arrive. This program, designed by expert teachers of English as an Additional Language, ensures a seamless transition into mainstream classes.

In addition to the intensive English program, students in IELP go through a thorough induction program that helps them understand Australian culture, schooling and living in Melbourne. This includes a “Buddy” program in which local students act as guides for newly arrived students.

As well as our academic programs, International Students at Forest Hill College have the opportunity to participate in a number of activities outside of class. Robotics and Coding Clubs run at lunchtime, as well as sporting, science and art clubs. Many students volunteer their time with community service through our Leos Club which is linked to our local Lions Club International branch. Students in Leos Club have worked to raise money for charities, planted trees, and are working to make the world a better place.

Living in Melbourne

Melbourne has been rated one of the world’s most liveable cities every year for a decade due to the high quality of life, safety, beautiful environment, excellent education system and efficient transportation.

Internationally renowned for its status as Australia’s cultural, artistic, food and sporting capital, it is a safe, exciting and beautiful place. Melbourne has a long history of multiculturalism where people from all around the globe live and work, contributing to an exciting food and cultural experience. There are also plenty of day-trip locations in the state of Victoria that are only a short distance from the city, such as Healesville Sanctuary, Phillip Island Penguin Parade, and the Great Ocean Road.

Forest Hill College is situated only 18kms from the centre of the city, in a leafy green suburb with many trees, parks, sports fields and gardens nearby. Mt Dandenong is short drive away with hiking opportunities and beautiful views across Melbourne.

The College is a short distance from Glen Waverley and Box Hill, both well known for their international food and shopping. We are also walking distance from Forest Hill Chase and Burwood 101 Shopping Centres and close to The Glen, Knox, Chadstone
and Eastland Shopping Malls.

The College has excellent public transportation links, with one of Melbourne’s famous tram lines only 400 metres away, bus stops for a number of routes at our school gate and several railway stations on both the Belgrave/Lilydale and Glen Waverley lines a short bus ride away. Brand new Quest Serviced Apartments has recently opened nearby which is popular with families coming to visit their children.

Homestay

Forest Hill College has developed a strong relationship with a large number of local homestay families over the years. Homestay families are carefully selected and regularly inspected to ensure a welcoming, healthy and safe environment and are either within walking distance or a short bus or tram ride away from school. All selected families are trained in our Child Safe Standard Code of Conduct.
